We are New Hampshire Fire History ("we," "us," "our"). We operate the website https://nhfirehistory.com (the "Site"), a reference project documenting the history of New Hampshire's fire departments, apparatus, and firefighters. You can contact us about this policy or your personal data at nhfirehistory@gmail.com.
This policy describes what information we collect when you visit or interact with the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
We collect a limited amount of information, and only what is needed to run the Site:
We do not sell personal information, and we do not run advertising on the Site.
The Site offers an email newsletter with occasional updates about new profiles, finds, and site news. If you subscribe, we collect your email address through a signup form powered by WPForms. Signup notifications are delivered to our project email account (Gmail, operated by Google), and subscriber addresses are managed in HubSpot, the platform we use to send newsletter emails. We use your email address only to send you these updates. We do not sell, rent, or share our subscriber list with third parties for their own marketing purposes. You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email, or by emailing us at nhfirehistory@gmail.com and asking to be removed. Once you unsubscribe, we stop sending you emails and remove your address from the active list.
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are popular, how visitors arrive, and what devices they use. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address, browser and device information, and pages visited, using cookies and similar technologies. We use this information in aggregate to improve the Site; we do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Articles on this Site may also include other embedded content (e.g. videos, images, or articles from other websites). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.
New Hampshire Fire History is a community-supported project, and we invite people to share photos, documents, and recollections by email. If you contact us or contribute materials, we retain the correspondence, your contact information, and the contributed materials as part of the project's historical records. This allows us to properly credit contributors, follow up with questions, and document the provenance of the materials on the Site. If your contribution is published on the Site, we credit you as described at the time of submission unless you ask otherwise.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The Site remains fully usable with cookies disabled.
Comments are not currently enabled on the Site. If we enable comments in the future (for example, on blog posts), the following will apply: when visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor's IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it; the Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Data is shared only with the service providers described in this policy (such as Google Analytics, Automattic, and our form and email tools) so they can perform their functions for the Site, and where required by law. Contributed historical materials are published on the Site with credit as described above.
Newsletter email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed. Contributor correspondence and contributed materials are retained indefinitely as part of the project's historical records. Analytics data is retained according to the retention settings of Google Analytics. If comments are enabled in the future, comments and their metadata will be retained indefinitely as described in the Comments section.
You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it, by emailing nhfirehistory@gmail.com. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. If you have subscribed to the newsletter or left a comment, you can also request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
We may update this policy from time to time as the Site adds features or as our services change. We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
